I. Educational Objectives

Geared to national defense industry equipment manufacturing industry in Midwestern areas, this major is aimed at cultivating advanced applied-talents to meet the needs of the national economy and social development. Within five years practice after graduation, they should:

1. To develop, research, plan, teach and manage in innovative design of industrial products, equipment industry design, interaction design and other related fields independently.

2. To propose industrial design solutions for product design according to social and consumers’ need by integrated utilization of natural science, social science and Modern scientific tools.

3. To understand the globe and social problems and possess the ability of the occupation morality, sense of teamwork and good communication skills.

4. To possess the sense of innovation and the ability of lifelong learning

5. To grow up to young and qualified industrial designers.

II. Program Outcomes

(1)To be able to apply the knowledge of mathematics, natural science and professional knowledge of industrial design, especially basic engineering knowledge related manufacturing to the complex design problems of modeling, structure and human-computer interaction of product innovation design and equipment design.

(2)To be able to utilize mathematics, natural sciences and basic principles and knowledge of engineering, including basic design, basic engineering, design expression, design history and theory, human-computer interaction, materials design and processing, and digital and physical models to identify, express and analyze the problem of equipment industrial design and product innovation design by conducting literature research, and draw valid conclusions.

(3)To be able to propose, analyze, solve problems and participate in the whole cycle of product planning, design, operation and maintenance to meet the need of society and consumers by using of theory in this profession, reflect innovative mind in the design and take into account the following factors include society, health, culture, intellectual property rights, safety and environmental protection policy, norms and criterion into account.

(4)To be able to research design problems with scientific methods based on the design principle of industrial design, such as to analyze the design needs and handle the relationship of industrial designs,environment, users, market, function, shape, color, structure, material, processing, etc. to gain a reasonable and effective design plan by information integration.

(5)To be able to solve the problem of industrial design with skillful design expression, practical ability, aesthetic appreciation, creative ability, and application ability of computer, Internet, multimedia and foreign language.

(6)To be able to analyze the rationality of industrial design plans based on engineering knowledge, evaluate the influence on society, health, safety, legality and culture, and understand their duties.

(7)To be able to understand and evaluate the influence of engineering practices that are the solutions to product innovating design and equipment industrial design on environmental and social sustainable development.

(8)To have professional ethics of industrial design, strong will for innovation, strong sense of social responsibility and a wealth of humanistic and artistic quality.

(9)To coordinate relations of individuals and teams: Students will be able to play roles of individuals, team members and persons in charge in multidisciplinary background.

(10)To be able to make effective communications and coordination specific to industrial design problems of product innovation design and equipment design with industry peers and the public, including writing design requirements analysis, plan design and statement; clear express the creative ideas and the related manufacturing structure, materials and technology; have a certain international vision; and be able to make communications and exchanges under the cross-cultural background.

(11)To qualify in design administration and economic decision making in multidisciplinary environment.

(12)To understand the trend and theoretical frontiers of industrial design,develop the awareness and ability of constantly learning to make good adaptation.

A bachelor degree requires 173.5credits , including:

91 creditsofrequired courses,38.5 creditsofelective courses, 44 creditsofComprehensive practice .

Extracurricular activities:7 credits of innovation and skills .

The student who achieves the total credits and extracurricular activities will be awarded an undergraduate diploma.
